What I Believe In

I believe in West Orange and that with experienced leadership this town can thrive.

Based on my experience with the Citizens Campaign, I believe that the key to success in municipal government is a focus on solutions, not blame. For the last few years, leadership in town has been more focused on fighting each other than working together. It’s time that we stop pointing fingers and start focusing on solving problems.

It’s time that we take a new approach to budgeting. We need a Mayor that presents a balanced budget on time. And we need a Council that reviews that budget in a reasonable fashion. We may need to make some hard choices, but ultimately we need to raise revenue, limit debt, and manage costs.

We can’t let the perfect stand in the way of the good. All too often, a proposed decision is compared to some perfect alternative. That alternative isn’t a real possibility – but it’s enough to sabotage the original decision and we’re left with the status quo. We can’t afford another four years of the status quo. It’s time we focus on real possibilities that make things better in the here and now.

Above all, I believe in the future of West Orange. As a family, we chose this to be our home because it has so much going for it. But for the last few years, this town has been stuck, going nowhere. If we work together, we can build a a better future for West Orange – where our government actually functions, a full time planner coordinates sensible development, small businesses are supported instead of persecuted, and where we celebrate every part of our community.

So that’s what I believe in. These are ideas are foundational to my campaign, and they will guide my decisions as Mayor.
